You have probably visited some blogs that have links within the actual post, what are known as in-context links. Some of these links are ads created by an ad network. Others are manually created by the author of the post. They may link to another article on the blog or to another website. One method of monetizing a blog is to use these internal links to link to affiliate products.

For WordPress blogs, one can take advantage of a free plugin which makes creating in-context links across the entire blog a breeze. The plugin is called aLinks. With it, you are able to put together a list of keyword phrases and associate a URL with each. The aLinks plugin then changes every matching keyword phrase across the blog into a link using the specified URL.

And that’s not all. There are two other modules included with the aLinks download, Deeper Blog and Amazon Basic. The Deeper Blog module allows you to select keyword phrases, and then it checks your blog posts to create internal links whenever those specified keyword phrases are found. With the Amazon Basic module, you designate keyphrases with search terms, which produces links to suitable products.

Once you’ve downloaded the .zip file, you may well need to unzip it and then rezip it exclusive of the documentation file so it will install successfully via the WordPress dashboard. Alternatively, you can upload the contents of the aLinks folder straight to your web server upon unzipping the package. Consult the documentation file for instructions on how to do this.

When the plugin is installed and made active, an aLinks menu appears at the bottom of the customary WordPress menus to the left of the dashboard. You’ll have to to enter the aLinks settings menu and key in your Amazon.com affiliate ID if you want to make use of the Amazon Basic module.

You can set up your keyword phrases from the ‘Keyphrases’ menu. The top section of this page is the toolbox, which is useful for finding and editing keyphrases. The next section is a box that shows your current keyphrases, along with the description and type. If you scroll down below that, you will find the forms where you submit the information to add your keywords to the database. Just fill out the information in the appropriate section and click ‘Update Keyphrase’ to add it. The aLinks plugin does the rest.
